If you have a little more time on your hands and enjoy spending time at 3,300 a.s.l (above sea level) then you might be interested in staying two nights at the Laban Rata Plateau, experiencing the majestic Mt. This is an extension of the standard 2Days 1Night Via Ferrata program where staying an extra night provides a back up day to conquer the summit in case of unfavorable weather plus a choice of Via Ferrata activities upon your summit descent – either Walk The Torq (Basic Level) or Low’s Peak Circuit (Advanced Level) and more time to enjoy this unique part of the world.

Minimum Requirements: Age above 10 years for Basic Level or above 17 years for Advanced Level Via Ferrata activities.

• 2 Nights in Pendent Hut Dormitory

3Days 2Nights Via Ferrata Itinerary

Day 1

7:00am : Meet our Downbelow driver at your hotel lobby and proceed for 2 hour road trip through the Crocker Range to Kinabalu Park HQ.
9:00am : Arrival at Kinabalu Park HQ. Meet with Via Ferrata representative before proceeding to the Sabah Park office for registration and meet your mountain guide.
9:30am : Start your ascent of Mt Kinabalu from Timpohon Gate @ 1,866m.
3:30pm : Arrive at Pendent Hut @ 3,289m and attend the mandatory via ferrata familiarization in Pendent Hut and meet your Mountain Torq trainer.
6:00pm : Dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant.
8:00pm : Lights out.

Day 2

1:30am : Walk up and early morning supper at Pendent Hut.
2:30am : Start hiking up to the summit with your Sabah Park’s mountain guide.
5:40am : Catch the sunrise on Low’s Peak.
6:00am : Descent from Low’s Peak to meet your Mountain Torq Trainer.
6:30am : Meet your via ferrata trainer at the agreed meeting point for your chosen Via Ferrata experience.
11:30am : Return to Pendant Hut to wash up.
12:00pm : Head to Laban Rata Restaurant for a well earned lunch.
Afternoon : Recuperate from the 11+hours day, have a well deserved nap, sit in the sun (weather permitting) and have a cup of the famous Sabah Tea at the base of Pendant Hut while watching the therapeutic mountain scenery.
6:00pm : Dinner at Laban Rata Restaurant.
8:00pm : Lights out.

Day 3 (Back up day for another summit attempt if Day 2 was not successful)

7:00am : Wake up, pack up and have breakfast
8:30am : Check out of Pendant Hut and descent to Timpohon Gate with your Sabah Park’s mountain guide.
2:30pm : Arrive at Timpohon Gate. Head to the Park HQ to collect your successful certificates, before your transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.
5:30pm : Arrive Kota Kinabalu and drop off at your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.

Via Ferrata routes

The basic Walk the Torq via Ferrata route will meet with the advanced via Ferrata route, so all participants can enjoy the Tyrolean Traverse, balancing beam and 2-cable Monkey bridge!
