4D3N Beginner Sport Climbing Course

Experience the real deal of sport climbing in a rare alpine rock environment free of snow and ice. This is the ultimate alpine playground for beginners to world-class rock climbers.

The aim of this beginner sport climbing course is to introduce participants to the world of outdoor sport climbing in a enjoyable and safe environment at the incredible location of Mt Kinabalu. This is a very special location in a unique alpine environment and a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site. The course leads to the provision of a much sought-after qualification, awarded by a member of the British Mountain Guides Association, who are themselves part of the International Federation of Mountain Guides. The successful participant will then be ready to move forward onto further levels of outdoor sport climbing qualifications and experience.

Course Content: General background to the development of bolted sport climbing and learning the basic skills and ropework for sports climbing

Minimum Requirements: Age 10. No previous experience/knowledge necessary

Basic Itinerary for 4D/3N Beginner Alpine Sport Climbing Course

Day 1

6:00 am
Meet our Downbelow driver at your hotel lobby and proceed for 2 hour road trip through the Crocker Range to Kinabalu Park HQ.
8:00 am
Arrival at Kinabalu Park HQ. Meet with Via Ferrata representative before proceeding to the Sabah Park office for registration and meet your mountain guide.
8:30 am
Start your ascent of Mt Kinabalu from Timpohon Gate
3:00 pm
Arrive at Pendant Hut (3,289m)
3:30 pm
Proceed for familiarization, safety briefing, course theory session in Pendant hut, conducted by mountain guide trainers.
6:00 pm
Dinner at Laban Rata’s canteen
8:00 pm
Lights out

Day 2

5:30 am
Wake up / Breakfast
6:30 am
Course Theory and Practical Session – depending on weather and participant’s condition.
4:30 pm
Return to Pendant hut.
6:00 pm
Dinner at Laban Rata’s canteen
8:00 pm
Lights out

Day 3

5:30 am
Wake up / Breakfast
6:30 am
Course Practical Session and/or Course Assessment – depending on weather and participant’s condition

Return to Pendant hut. Debrief/discussion on Assessment result with mountain guide trainers.

Dinner at Laban Rata’s canteen

Day 4

7:00 am
Wake up and proceed for breakfast
8:30 am
Pack up and prepare to check out from Pendant Hut and proceed for your ascent of Mt Kinabalu to Timpohon gate.
2:30 pm
Arrive Timpohon gate, and proceed for a brief transfer to the HQ office to collect your certificates, before your transfer back to Kota Kinabalu.
5:30 pm
Arrive Kota Kinabalu and drop your off at your hotel in Kota Kinabalu
